    Color
    Full amber
    Nose
Sherry and vanilla are very distinct.
    Body
The smoothest of Speysides. The flavors open up almost immediately.
    Palate
Sherry. Sherry. More sherry. The aging really comes through here. Honey. some sort of citrus.
    Finish
One of the crispest out there.

Sweeter and smoother than the 12. More character than the 15. Doesn't quite justify the price jump from the 12, though... very refreshing compared to a complicated malt.

This is THE ONE. I told my co-workers we were having a group of hot 18-year old's at our office party this year (my wife was not amused) and we spent about a grand buying all the major names in 18 year old single malt. I had about 50 Glenfiddich tasting glasses left over from that promotion several years go, and we used them for the blind tastings. The Macallan 18 won hands down. The perfect balance. The amazing finish. And the sensation changes as it rolls over the tounge ... peat, smoke, fruit, wow. For me, it begins and ends here. I have wasted my life heretofore on The Glenlivet 12, when I could have been drinking this. Sure it costs more but you only have one life to live.

    Amber + 1
    Nose
Neat: Maple, lemons/tangerines, cinnamon, vanilla. Watered: Smoky Vanilla, Sherry, Gerwurstraminer, Maple. 31/33
    Body
    Medium Viscosity, Sparse slow-forming legs.
    Palate
Neat: Oranges, chocolate, smoke, a bit acrid in the mouth. Watered: Smokey Oranges, toast 30/33
    Finish
Neat: Vanilla, Pepper, very mild burn. Easy to drink. It has a Quite pleasant fruity/sherry profile. Watered. Spicy, Smokey, almost bitter, lemon rind, earthiness. 28/30

Drink this neat. I took it neat in a scotch glass. Water degrades this whisky, especially in the finish, some of the layers of complexity are lost. Water does bring out a smokeir presence especially in the nose, but this is not worth the loss in flavor. A Marvelous Whisky, but expensive. Expect to pay between $135 and $160 USD, in 2012.

    Nose
Mellow sherry, butterscotch, faint apple and ripe pear.
    Body
Medium body, silky and very smooth.
    Palate
Sherry but not overpowering, dark rich fruit, maybe a little currant and cinnamon.
    Finish
Long silky legs, exceptionally smooth and complex. Ends a bit dry which appeals to me.

Normally prefer Islays, but this is a gem, and not too sweet for my palate.

    Color
    Golden yellow.
    Nose
    Sweet and fruity.
    Body
I was surprised by its thickness.
    Palate
Honeyed sweetness, with orange hints, and just a touch of citrus.
    Finish
Crisp and clean. This is one of the most refreshing malts that I've had.

Smooth and incredibly pleasant to drink. Not as complex or challenging as I usually like (I'm an Islay fan), but it's a delight nonetheless.

Honeyed sweetness with traces of fruit. Also a nice crispness that hints of citrus.

    Clean and pleasant. Remarkably crisp.

Simply lovely. Not nearly as aggressive or challenging as the Islays that I usually love, but this is an absolutel pleasure to drink. Smooth, flavorful, and well-balanced.

Sherry, Buttery, Cloves other spices a little bit of honey.
    Finish
Medium Long, with a Taste of Oak, Also a Sweet after taste almost like Sugar.

This is my first Macallan and It does have a strong Sherry Taste. Also very Smooth and Soft. It is a very good whisky and it's quite expensive. A very nice Dram but not very interesting.
