So well knitted... The most oaky and least floral of the range. But age and particular selection of barrels has achieved a distinguished maturity, almost intimidating. Sherry notes give additional depth to the distillery character and a cakey sweetness. Aromas are perfectly malted, especially when The Glenlivet is enjoyed with water. Wood is well integrated but firmly frames the aromatic palate. A very special dram to enjoy with dark chocolate and let pleasure linger late at night.

- Color
- Amber
- Nose
- Fairly sweet, somewhat flowery, mellow
- Body
- Fairly light
- Palate
- Starts off fairly sweet, just a bit smokey.
- Finish
- Fairly quick finish, smooth and even but fades too quickly.
I'm fairly a newcomer to the single malts, having previously been (and still) partial to Jameson. This is quite pleasant though, but not one I'm likely to repeat. The 15 is notably more interesting and worthy of repeated visits.

- Color
- Medium amber
- Nose
- Spicy oak
- Body
- Medium
- Palate
- Fine grains with sweet honey, charred oak and understated peat; well balanced
- Finish
- Finishes with oak char rounded out by subtle sweetness, with an overall spicy character that’s inherent throughout the dram
The venerable Speysider still has purpose, though doubtless luster has been lost to the proliferation of other Scottish Malts in the past two decades. With its former vitality up for debate, it’s nonetheless significant and certainly solid. Sales are steady, but can it return to greatness?

Thanks very much to Ceceilia at The Shebeen for topping us up with this.

Review by Colin
- Color
- Golden caramel.
- Nose
- Green apples, Malt and strong alcohol at full strength. There is strong peat which comes out with water.
- Body
- Medium full. Thick and syrupy. Powerful.
- Palate
- Sweet. Very rich. Candied cherries, Oak, Vanilla.
- Finish
- Long but soft, with sweetness in the back of the throat and sinuses.
This is a very sweet whisky, but not at all in a sickly way. It has a similar character to The Macallan Cask, but much better balanced with malt and bitterish oak flavours.
