YAMAZAKI Single Malt 18-Year Old Whisky This is a full-bodied whisky with spicy cherry-like tones. The toffee aromatics of this copper-gold colored whisky offer a pleasant, long, dry finish.

- Color
- Golden hue, varnished yellowood.
- Nose
- Spring flowers, ginger, caramel, honey, hint of vanilla.
- Body
- Light at first, then rises to the occasion and makes its presence known. Medium textured for a single malt.
- Palate
- A subtle sea breeze ? Balanced peat with some vanilla caramel sweetness. Almonds and a dash of ginger. Buttered toast with honey in the middle of the mouth.
- Finish
- Hint of alcohol coming through at the end. Warm on the tongue, smooth with a slight snap going down. Common with Japanese whisky's - perhaps not as smooth as a highland or Islay 18 y.o. but makes up for it with bountiful flavours and "drink me some more" nuances.
The Japanese are skilled craftsmen when it comes to single malts. I had to wait years before stumbling on a bottle - quite pricey but well worth the expense. A unique taste - something to spoil your friends with if they enjoy a special dram. You will remember this one for a long time to come - it makes itself known in very pleasant manner. A polite acquaintance.
