YAMAZAKI Single Malt 18-Year Old Whisky This is a full-bodied whisky with spicy cherry-like tones. The toffee aromatics of this copper-gold colored whisky offer a pleasant, long, dry finish.

    Color
    Golden hue, varnished yellowood.
    Nose
Spring flowers, ginger, caramel, honey, hint of vanilla.
    Body
Light at first, then rises to the occasion and makes its presence known. Medium textured for a single malt.
    Palate
A subtle sea breeze ? Balanced peat with some vanilla caramel sweetness. Almonds and a dash of ginger. Buttered toast with honey in the middle of the mouth.
    Finish
Hint of alcohol coming through at the end. Warm on the tongue, smooth with a slight snap going down. Common with Japanese whisky's - perhaps not as smooth as a highland or Islay 18 y.o. but makes up for it with bountiful flavours and "drink me some more" nuances.

The Japanese are skilled craftsmen when it comes to single malts. I had to wait years before stumbling on a bottle - quite pricey but well worth the expense. A unique taste - something to spoil your friends with if they enjoy a special dram. You will remember this one for a long time to come - it makes itself known in very pleasant manner. A polite acquaintance.
