YAMAZAKI Single Malt 12-Year Old Whisky This is a medium-bodied whisky with the aromas of dried fruits and honey. It has a delicate, mellow taste with a lingering, woody, dry finish.

The French and Italians didn\'t invent wine but became very famous for it, I suspect the same is happening with Japanese whisky.

- Color
- Brownish gold.
- Nose
- Sweet and fruity.
- Body
- Slightly thick.
- Palate
- Started sweet, with hints of fruit. Definitely had a nutty flavor. Slight hints of salt and a clear woodiness emerged towards the end.
- Finish
- Very brief and clean.
I had been looking for a chance to taste some Japanese whisky, and finally had the chance with the Yamazaki. It definitely makes me want try some more, though this one didn't rank among my favorites.

- Color
- Golden brown.
- Nose
- Woody and earthy, with a hint of fruit.
- Body
- A bit syrupy.
- Palate
- A bit of fruit. Tastes of nuts and definite wood flavors.
- Finish
- Surprisingly smooth for the all of the initial flavor and punch. Taste doesn't linger long at all.
My first Japanese whisky and it made me want to sample some more. I still prefer my Islay Scotches, but this was a worthwhile experience.

- Color
- Golden.
- Nose
- Slightly sweet with earthy undertones.
- Body
- Slightly thick and syrupy.
- Palate
- Can definitely taste the sweetness of the sherry casks. Hints of fruit and a touch of cream.
- Finish
- Smooth, yet with just a hint of a burn. Doesn't last very long.
A nice Japanese whiskey that seems to be in the Speyside style. A little lacking in complexity, but definitely a worthy whiskey. This proves that the Japanese whiskeys can hold up to the Scotch single malts, no problem.

- Color
- A light gold with a slightly grassy hue
- Nose
- Sweet grass, mellow citrus, crème brûlée or brown sugar, faint spring or mineral water.
- Body
- Light to medium bodied, smooth and ever-so-slightly syrupy.
- Palate
- Lightly floral with hints of grass, delicate pear, and wet wood.
- Finish
- Thick and slow degrade like molasses, taste of pralines, slightly salty (reminiscent of beaches).
A delightful oriental take on Scotch Whisky, favoring the highlights of the Speyside region, influenced by the sea. A warm and worthy, buttery contender to other Speyside malts.

A very good rich and well balanced Japanese malt which needs time to grow on you - but worth the wait!

- Color
- golden amber
- Nose
- at first whiff I pick up a repulsive, overwhelming nail polish remover/egg nog scent. BUT, after about 5 minutes of aeration and a wee drop of water this scent disappears, leaving a lemony zest, apple juice, slight vanilla scent.
- Body
- medium, young
- Palate
- zesty lemons, slight fruit, slight vanilla, and distinct toasted coconut? surprising pleasurable.
- Finish
- not a long finish, but warm and easy
My initial reaction to the nail polish remover/egg nog scent was repulsion, but after a significant amount of aeration and a drop of water that scent completely disappeared leaving a unique and complex tasting whisky. The japanese have done well.
