- Color
- Buttered-toast gold
- Nose
- Strong peat and sea-salt, with wet sawdust and woodsmoke.
- Body
- Medium, grainy, and nicely dry.
- Palate
- Peat, toasted bread, salt, pencil lead, fig, faint lemon curd, and an undercurrent of alcohol.
- Finish
- Timed at 45 seconds. Very good, mellow, and throat-coating.
This is one of my favorite whiskies. I like the earthiness and non-prissy imperfection of it. It tastes like what a working stiff in an Islay pub would drink. Great, manly whisky.

- Color
- Mdium Straw
- Nose
- Leads with a touch of sea salt riding atop smoked peat. Earthy loam aroma follows and traces of nuts and caramel.
- Body
- Medium-bodied, light on the palate, with a faint oiliness that is very flattering. It doesn't coat the tongue as much as brush it.
- Palate
- Caramel, almonds, mushrooms, and leather predominating. Faint hint of petroleum (not off-putting) and a mineral tang.
- Finish
- Timed out as 25 seconds; respectable.
There are a lot worse ways to spend your limited bux in the Scotch world. If you keep your expectations reasonable, you'll probably enjoy this a lot.
