- at first whiff I pick up a repulsive, overwhelming nail polish remover/egg nog scent. BUT, after about 5 minutes of aeration and a wee drop of water this scent disappears, leaving a lemony zest, apple juice, slight vanilla scent.
- Body
- medium, young
- Palate
- zesty lemons, slight fruit, slight vanilla, and distinct toasted coconut? surprising pleasurable.
- Finish
- not a long finish, but warm and easy
My initial reaction to the nail polish remover/egg nog scent was repulsion, but after a significant amount of aeration and a drop of water that scent completely disappeared leaving a unique and complex tasting whisky. The japanese have done well.

Great beginner whisky. I prefer peaty Islay single malts, but can definitely enjoy this Balvenie if I'm in the mood for a change.

First full size bottle I ever bought, and a damn fine purchase. Peat, iodine, smoke...and a long smooth finish. Not to mention the affordable price tag.
