This fine whiskey has as pleasant a taste as any whiskey around. The 10 full years of aging combine nicely with its 45% apy (90 proof). A hint of caramel flavor is enjoyed when one tastes this fine hand-crafted bourbon. This bourbon has a "rich, plush texture.

- Color
- Deep copper/amber.
- Nose
- Sterile band-aids, then ginger-laced honey and oak bourbon. Distance your nose from the lip of the glass due to the high ABV (107 proof).
- Body
- Gritty, tongue-gripping/wrestling, medium bodied.
- Palate
- Prickly oak, honey, pencil shavings.
- Finish
- Hot, lasting, and quite smooth. Confirms the palate on all fronts. My only complaint is a slightly bitter wood taste surfaces after the cedar pencil shavings.
I bought my Van Winkle Handmade in 2009, and it says (and tastes every bit) 107 proof. I could not find any of the typically 45% bourbon aforementioned, and I'm glad. This is bourbon's answer to some of Scotland's 10 year cask-strength greats, and it's really well done. Not the most complex, but very pleasing to the tongue - up there with Buffalo Trace.

- Color
- good dark color
- Nose
- Awesome smells like the skin on the corn cob!
- Body
- light to medium body
- Palate
- Way too much heat. This is a mixer for sure. Wow this way off balanced!
- Finish
- Tears flowed from my eyes as the alcohol burned my mouth and throat.
Great nose and horrible palate. The worst part of it was the fact I paid 30 dollars for this

This whisky is spicy and delicious and very interesting, but has too much floural grassiness for my taste.
