Established in 1826 in Wick, Pulteney Distillery is the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland and at that time was only accessible by sea. The barley was brought in by sea, the whisky shipped out by boat and many of the distillery workers were also employed as fishermen. Sadly the herring fishing industry is no longer part of daily life in Wick but Pulteney Distillery continues to operate, distilling one of the finest Highland malts available. During 12 years of maturation, Old Pulteney has taken time to absorb the sea breeze creating a distinct flavour and unique product.

- Color
- Perfect pancake
- Nose
- Lovely and light creaminess, freshly churned butter, shortbread, some exotic fruit. Black licorice, toffee, vanilla roobios tea. Confident, firm, and very appetising.
- Body
- Great weight in the mouth, like humid warm wind on a cold day.
- Palate
- Sea air. Creaminess in the taste, like Cool Whip, celery, peaches, flan, crumble crust.
- Finish
- Finishes with drying oak and dehydrated dates, or some other dried fruit.
Great value for everyone and great entry malt for first time whisky drinkers. This is a bottle that gets consumed and replaced often on our shelf becuase it goes down well in any malt mood.

Extremely well balanced. Lovely sweet toffee. One I'll by making a regular in my cabinet.

- Nose
- Some seashore, malt, and flowers. Freshly washed clothes. Great balance.
- Body
- Smooth feel at average weight.
- Palate
- Resembles the nose pretty much. Maltyness lurking under a flowery, fruity palate with the littlest hint of island character.
- Finish
- Mild and long, flowery. Cooling summer breeze at the shore, endlessly. Spot on.
Amazing balance, lovely nose, and such a dream-like finish.

- Nose
- complex and balanced. Sweet peach, citrus rind balanced by sea breeze. Very inviting
- Body
- Light and oily
- Palate
- Initially salty and mouthwatering, mellows into a rounded malty flavour with hint of vanilla and nuts.
- Finish
- lingering finish, rounded and leaves you wanting more. Hot and peppery quickly fades to dry and warming.
I fell in love with this whisky from the moment it hit my lips. Unusual and stands on its own. Many people criticise this whisky for tasting too salty or strange, however I must disagree. This whisky is subtly complex and is a refreshing change from the powerhouses. This malt is modest and a perfect everyday dram.

- Nose
- Floral
- Body
- On the lighter side but not thin, definitely some body there.
- Palate
- Oranges, oranges, oranges. I don't have the most sophisticated palate, but the orange flavor seems overwhelming to me. That's not a negative. Others mention toffee and salt. I detect a very faint saltiness, but the orange quality, coupled with floral hues, is up front.
- Finish
- Virtually non-existent -- but who cares? If I want a long finish, I'll opt for Laphroiag
A very enjoyable, lighter Scotch, that goes down easily. Definitely a "go to" dram that will be a regular in my cabinet. It's also a great value. Binny's (Chicago area) has it for under $40, and it's recently been on sale for $28, a tremendous value. I bought two bottles.

- Color
- Golden, brass.
- Nose
- Orange. Raisins, candied almonds. Freshly-baked sourdough bread by the seaside.
- Body
- Medium-bodied. Slightly oily.
- Palate
- Sea salt, the orange is confirmed on the palate. Warm, but no burn.
- Finish
- Long - almost like chewing on an orange seed. Floral notes linger, and orange becomes even more apparent. Hints of malt and cider.
Delightful, surprising nose with some unexpected notes. Multifaceted finish. A good dram to give to novices, happy to add to the whiskey cabinet.

- SHOCKING TANG, Sherbet.
- Finish
- None. Malt is so stiff. I could not even move it to back palate.
Cant recommend if you hate Sherbet, tang effect and a very firm texture. Some unpleasent phenoilic to my head i disliked too. Again another waste $. Store gives no help. Bottle was 40% version. Anything that says maritime or bracing in review I will say away

I bought a case. It tastes like whiskey. All you punters who say tastes like fruits and vegetables and anything else sound like pratts.

- Nose
- Nose is very clean with a complex fruit signature; pricot, pear, peach, apple, pinapple. Lightly peated, with a sweet salty note lurking around in there.
- Body
- Crisp and clean but big and full bodied.
- Palate
- Big sweet fruit and barley sugar arrival, salty seawater notes sprinkled in.
- Finish
- Long, sweet, super clean and refreshing.
Possibly my new favorite? Biggest and most complex whisky I have found at this price point. Dont waste this one on beginners! They wont appreciate it, im glad I waited to try this one.
