    Oban
    Style
    Single Malt
    Release
    Unspecified
    Age

    Scotland: Highlands

    Distillery

Founded in 1794 at the heart of the coastal town known as "The Gateway to the Isles", this is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Oban's tiny stills marry the sea air character of the Island malts to the soft, richly fruity style of the Highlands, creating their own rich, elegant and glowing West Highland malt.

Very smooth for 43%- no rough edges but a little too refined. It IS a delicious addition to the cabinet however.

    Color
    Orangy amber
    Nose
Citrus, grassy, wet soil, subtle flowers
    Body
Balanced on the tongue and in the glass (legs were amazingly uniform)
    Palate
Sweet carnations, fruit and grass mash, a hearty kick of barley
    Finish
Medium warm, rather long, and nothing displeasing. Adding water imparts some gentle pepper authority with no added acidity.

A good Highland for certain, but a bit pricey for the results. It is better with a dash of water if you wish to up the silky/fruity factor and increase the finish length. On final review while polishing this bottle off after some years, I'm dropping the score from an original review of 85 with some more experience under my belt.

    Color
    Golden Straw
    Nose
malted cereal rides on a bed of semi-sweet fruit and citrus, hints of peat.
    Body
The body is full, mouth filling and smooth.
    Palate
On the palate the whisky starts with cooked fruits then gets spicy with strong drier oak notes then some peat. Maybe a wisp of smoke with the peat.
    Finish
The finish is long with a spicy oak driness, a little salty.

Definitely a good whisky. It has plenty of flavor but doesn't overpower the palate.

    fruity peat
    Body
standard, slightly thicker than water with a smoothness to it
    Palate
peat and woody with a medium burn of alcohol

A nice whiskey indeed. It has enough flavour to be interesting, and is strong enough to represent a commanding drink. A fine choice for fireside contemplation.

    Color
    Copper like a new penny.
    Nose
Very subtle. Malt, very slight citrus. Very slight alcohol burn. Fragrant
    Body
    Smooth and wet. Thin.
    Palate
Spicy. Malt, oak. Complex and mature.
    Finish
A very long and very spicy finish. Some sour notes in the end, then minty.

This is a very good and easy scotch, but not too easy. It is very complex and mature, and yields surprising amounts of spice.
