    Color
    Golden sepia in the glass
    Nose
    Coastal spray of relentless peat
    Body
Sultry, with a sheer set of legs
    Palate
Sea salty with an all-out affront of hospital iodine; the slightest hint of malty brown sugar sweetness gives way to brutally intense white oak, followed by a seemingly microsecond confluence of every single olfaction thus far...
    Finish
Ringing finish which quakes your gut and sends you spinning in a centrifuge where your insides are out and you're punch-drunk - even prior to the onset of the second finish. That's right - while you regain balance from the first K/O on shaky foundation, you are embraced, warm and familiar; it’s like you've been saved from the bowels of Hell by Divinity; comfort envelops you as you wallow in it's warm afterglow...

All I can say is, HolyShitte, this is everything you expect from Laphroig and anything you ever were left longing for after the standard 10 year. Head and shoulders above it's more popular version, which ain't no slouch itself. I'm still reeling. This just entered my top 5 whisky's of all time.

    wood filled with water, amber.
    Nose
Peat smoke, smashed coconut, light fruit, vanilla extract and water.
    Body
Full bodied surprisingly, really fills the palate, great arrival. Very calm...the calm before the storm.
    Palate
Sea air while standing next to a fire. Medicinal. Again, coconut hints. Very light fruit notes, marshmallows.
    Finish
BOOM! Storm of peat smoke. Fantastic! Very complex. BBQ and coconuts., smokey very smiley, feels like I just hit a nice cigar and then a light fruit rind taste remains with the smoke. Looong. Groovy.

An adventure into Islay. Cannont believe this is such a young whisky. The finish is heavenly. It's like your drinking Islay when it explodes at the end

    Nose
    Smoke, honey, slightly woody.
    Body
Surprisingly smooth, totally non-abrasive and mellow. Thick but not heavy.
    Palate
Peat-filled but not campfire, more of a roasted flavor. Crisp and clean, a little salt and a touch of brown sugar.
    Finish
Long and awesome. Take a breath and it leaves the back of your throat cool similar to taking a breath in after a peppermint.

Magic in a bottle right here. It's like a wizard funneled his tears for everyone to enjoy.

    Light fireweed honey
    Nose
Smokey but subtle, touch of iodine, salty air, nutty like sunflower seeds with a hint of wildflower
    Body
    Oily which works great here
    Palate
Initial sweetness gets washed away by malt and salty sea. Let it linger a bit longer and it shows you more earth but in a refined manner.l
    Finish
Shorter but more memorable finish than the ten. Just enough heat neat. This is special!

Was fortunate enough to try it side by side with the 10.

Very clear amber. Delicious honey colors, looks smooth (and is)
    Nose
The fresh scent of a new book, campfire smoke, alcohol, and a touch of fruit
    Body
smooth, creamy almost, an array of flavors flows throughout the mouth gently stinging the nostrils.
    Palate
Campfire smoke, wood, leather, slight citrus, sea salt
    Finish
Very long finish, smooth and long. Tingles the back of the throat gently and leaves me with a taste of smoked wood.

    Nose
Smoke, peat, burning wood, oil, vanilla, coconut, honey
    Body
    Velvet, thick, oily, honey cream
    Palate
Rush of peat and smoke, giving way to phenolic flavours and hint of honey. A slight undesired hint of alcohol and menthol towards the middle that is overpowered by peat again towards the end.
    Finish
Long finish with peat giving away slowly to subtler flavours of coconut and vanilla. However the burnt ashy taste lingers in the background for long

A peat monster with a coconut/nutty touch. Tasting carred out after a few drops of water were added and hand-warmed for a few minutes for the whisky to open-up.

    Nose
Typical medicinal laphroaig but fruitier. Lemony, burnt apples, and sea salt.
    Body
Medium bodied to light. Shows it's a young whisky indeed.
    Palate
Again, lemony, fruity like apples, oranges, and less medicinal like the original Lap 10.
    Finish
Finish stays but not as long as the regular 10 or the cask strength 10.

The QC of laphroaig in my opinion seemed lacking if not half baked... I'd rather spend the much more affordable Lap 10 or upgrade to the CS 10 instead... The QC is decent but it won't be an everyday sipper for me...

    Golden sunset.
    Nose
Smoke and alcohol. Intense smoke. I mean like a delicious smokey barbecue using Hawaiian keawe wood. It fills the room.
    Body
    Oily thick full bodied.
    Palate
It's a peat/smoke heaven with wood. Smooth with a tinge of sweet maltiness.
    Finish
Nice long finish that leaves you smacking your lips long after it goes down. Afterwhich, you are just compelled to do it all over again.

Wow. This a peat monster. I love Islay single malts and this is on the top of my list. I'm sure there are more layers of flavor in it but they get over powered by the intense peat/smoke/wood taste. Very delicious. Laphroaig rules! It saddens me a little bit because all my other favorites (Ardbeg 10, Uigeadail, Lagavulin 16, Talisker 10) just pales against it as far as intensity is concerned.

    Palate

    Nose
Bonfires, drying peat, oily burning wood
    Body
Crisp, wet. Not as thick as the 10yr.
    Palate
Subtly sweet like milk from a bowl of sugared-cereal. A hefty gulp of smoke follows.
    Finish
Long, slightly ashy. Traces of barley after the sweetness has gone away.

Less sweet, less medicinal. More smoke, more wood than the 10yr. More elemental too, but not as raw. The flavors are more distinct and less muddled. Less alcohol burn despite being bottled at higher ABV.

    Palate
Laphroaig peat, Tarred railroad ties, after the rain. Burning wet oak. This is the only thing you will taste for about 20 minutes.

I am a huge fan of the Laphroaig 10, and Ardbeg, as well. But this malt goes too far. If you've ever wanted to drink a barrel, this is the scotch for you.

    Nose
Bandaid at first, settling into intense smoke and peat
    Body
Beautifully thick and smooth, syrup like with a taste of honey. Almost like a liqueur, say a Drambuie consistency. Utterly delightful!
    Palate
Remarkably smooth for a taste of peat and smoke. Astonishing smoothness, in fact.
    Finish
Talk about a conflict of the senses! Extreme smokiness with unbelievable smoothness!

Amazing! The first time I poured it into a glass, I was reminded of a box of bandaids. It gradually levelled off to smokiness. Matter of fact, there was a huge fire at a building down the street yesterday. I likened the smell in the air to a whiff of Laphroaig! When this settles down in the glass, I cannot imagine a smoother, more refined whisky. It just blows me away, how something that smells at times like a dirty ashtray, can be so satisfying. I have tried a few single malts, but nothing comes close to this. When I roll it around in my mouth, I feel like I am in Heaven! For a malt with such an intense beginning, the palate and finish are each a paradox!I could do on and on about the marvels of this single malt. Magical! Marvelous! Miraculous!

    Nose
Initially very medicinal (friend: "Is this whisky?"); peat, smoke and iodine. Then fermented fruit and citrus. With a drop of water it becomes even more complex. Kiwifruit? Heavy brine, peat and smoke in the empty glass.
    Body
    Medium
    Palate
Confirms the nose; also some pepper. Not sweet; the malt is quite subdued. A drop of water brings out more fruitiness. Too much water shuts out the peat.
    Finish
    Very long. Dry smoke.

This Laphroaig is bolder, more complex and more interesting than the 40% 10yo. It's quite in your face, and I find it very easy to enjoy. Delightful!

    Color
    Gold/Light Amber.
    Nose
Familiar cooked fruit, smoke is more subtle than other Laphroaigs, leaning more toward ashy charcoal.
    Body
Medium-full bodied, medium oily on the tongue.
    Palate
Saliva-inducing fruit and smoke, though a bit weighted towards the smoke, high ABV prickle and outright numbing if you roll it around too long.
    Finish
Youthful attack, quite long for what seems to be 8 to 9 years smooth, old bitter oak comes through later with a dry afterbreath.

A Laphroaig with attitude to satisfy Murray's cast of everything-Ardbeg. What was always a live campfire promised by Laphroaig has moved to an ashy afterburn. Excellent indeed, but the balance promised by the nose fails to overcome the smoky dominance, leaving this just short of classic.
