J & B Rare Blended Scotch Whisky
Review by ChadDavis
- Color
- amber -2
- Nose
- Ginger ale , honey very sweet, wax, lemonheads 28/33
- Body
- Medium viscosity, slow running sticky-looking legs. Thin mouthfeel.
- Palate
- Citrus, then smokey but mild peatiness. Alcohol taste is prominent. 22/33
- Finish
- Mostly a mild burn of alcohol, this stuff is young, not a hint of smoothness. Mild smokiness is in the back. 20/33 not bad for a cheap blend .
I am surprised at this little guy. The names of lots of Brit Royalty doesnt mean much; it's a cheap whisky, but I like it. That's the surprise. I took it neat in a Glencairn. Lovely nose that belies the less refined palate and sorry finish. Drink it if your only other choice is Jack.

- Color
- Sunny yellow
- Nose
- Nose of berries and orange zest
- Body
- Light, yet determined
- Palate
- Fine grains give way to a hint of spicy vanilla, a decent balance
- Finish
- A bit short on finish, but still enjoyable
robust blend, sparkles nicely; on par with Clan as my blended at under $15; superior to Ballantines and Dewar's. Very good.

- Body
- Light, watery, with a hint of oils.
- Palate
- Citrus, hint of apples, Buttery, very little malt, and slight smoke.

Pleasant, but I'm concerned with how little the taste of malt I'm picking up. I think its because its a blend of mostly grains.

- Color
- Straw
- Nose
- light Peat, fruity, grassy.
- Body
- medium body
- Palate
- a little hot and peppery. Light, peaty, lemony, very sweet.
- Finish
- has a good smoky smooth finish that is pretty long. Leaves a good numbness on the tongue and a good sweet stickiness on the finish as well, leaving you wanting to take another pull like any good whiskey should do.
There are many good scotches on the market. This is one of them. J & B is an old contender and maybe because of that it has lost some popularity, but in my opinion, it's a darn good blend. Especially for the price. It has a pretty good nose, it's pretty smooth and has a good taste about it. It finishes well and it's a good quality liquor. I like to drink my scotch with ice and J & B takes to ice very well, which means that it has some depth and character. It's my everyday scotch.
