Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve 1973

Distillery: Glenfiddich
Style: Single Malt
Release: Unspecified
Age: 30 Years
Alcohol: 46.5% abv.
Region: Scotland, Highlands
Bottled For: Distillery

On a snow-white morning in January, seven coopers at the Glenfiddich Distillery went to work with a particularly large spring in their step. It was their privilege to assist the Malt Master, David Stewart, in selecting this year's Glenfiddich Vintage Reserve, and they've set a new benchmark by breaking with tradition. The seven men – who have over 130 years experience at Glenfiddich between them - have chosen a 1973 Glenfiddich single malt that has matured for 33 years in second-fill Spanish sherry butts, the first time the Distillery has used a malt stored in this type of wood for its Vintage Reserve.

Color: Deep Copper
Nose: Sherry! Burnt sugar, Spicy pepper, Minty, Alcohol, Grassy, Lots of oak, Vanilla & Caramel
Body: Hot, Wet
Palate: Strong! Burnt sugar, Spicy pepper, Cinamon, Lots of sherry and caramel with water.
Finish: Warm! Long! Grassy when watered. Lots of sherry in the end.

Like all very old whiskies this one was very rich with well integrated flavours. Lovely structure and sublety. Unfortunately, it's an old Glenfiddich, which rings through with too much sherry and grassiness especially with water.
