John Teeling, Chairman of Cooley Distillery said "Our blenders and quality consultants have made us release the Connemara 12 year old. They believe that it is one of the best whiskeys in the world - bar none. It represents the pinnacle, to date, of Cooley distillation and maturing skills. The soft waters of the Cooley Hills, the warm caress of the copper pot stills, the breathing oak barrels from Kentucky, the ancient granite warehouses of Kilbeggan and 12 years in a perfect whiskey climate have combined to deliver this gem. We have very limited quantities, so savour while you can."

- Color
- Enticingly warm and golden, with a worrying arora of green.
- Nose
- Kippers, furniture polish, spent matches and barley-sugar sweets
- Body
- A stick-insect with the mouth of Mick Jagger.
- Palate
- Fake smoke and cardboard wrapped round a hard-boiled candy.
- Finish
- Like a thief who gets away without being noticed, but leaves an unpleasant fart behind him.
One of the best things about living here in Ireland is the smell of peat on a damp wintery day, so I was incredibly excited by the thought of a peated Irish whiskey. It makes so much sense. However, what I got was a veneer of peat smoke - like the cheapest of kippers had been squeeze into the mash. Expensive and disappointing, with non of the class, breeding or complexity of its western Scottish peers. Need a lot of work to improve it.
