Established in 1779, Bowmore Distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and nestles on the shores of Loch Indaal on the Inner Hebridean Isle of Islay. Bowmore is universally regarded as the best balanced of all the Islay malts, as characterised by its wonderfully rich and complex flavours.
Bowmore Dusk
Review by ColoradoDram
- Color
- Dark copper/amber
- Nose
- Dry grapes, salty kippers, iodine, amazingly little bite for 50% ABV
- Body
- Medium-full bodied, very oily mouthfeel
- Palate
- Very dry wine, salty iodine typical of other Bowmores, seawater
- Finish
- Whoa long! Whoa hot! Whoa dry at the tail end! One sip lasts for minutes, but all sips remain smooth to the last drop in the dram. Finishes like a 14-17 year, accepting dilution without increase of acidity if you desire.
This is an excellent Islay if you welcome a dry, winey, dram as an aperitif to a seafood dinner. Update: On polishing this bottle off, I dropped it from an 87 to an 85 based only on the relative experience as measured against other reviewed scotches.
