Auchentoshan, meaning `Corner of the fieldâ in Gaelic, produces a delicate, smooth and light single Malt Whisky. The subtle aroma and flavour of its Spirit is achieved by the unique Triple Distillation process, whereby the spirit is not distilled twice, as elsewhere in Scotland, but instead, distilled three times producing even greater refinement to its character.

- Color
- Pale gold.
- Nose
- Fresh metal shavings, heather, over-ripe bananas, nail polish remover.
- Body
- The legs indicated thin viscosity, but a surprisingly creamy mouthfeel emerges from a light body.
- Palate
- Definitely a metallic taste (maybe the triple distillation?), but a fine-enough flowery and fruity malt adjoins. Surprised not to taste much grass typical of lowlands.
- Finish
- Peppery, dry, medium hot but very shallow. Pretty smooth for what I'm guessing is ~8 years old.
Worth a taste, and a good value scotch, but a little 'too' distilled flavor for my palate. Maybe the more mature Three Wood would balance better.

- Color
- Pale gold.
- Nose
- Slightly sweet and floral.
- Body
- Slightly oily, but still light.
- Palate
- Buttery - almost tastes like buttered toast. Touches of caramel. Hints of grass.
- Finish
- Peppery and hot. Doesn't last long.
Smooth and drinkable, but lacking in complexity. Not as much flavor as a lot of Scotches, but definitely a great value for the price. This is a great place for novices to start, as it is very easy to drink.

- Nose
- The aroma of this scotch is very complex, but masking its complexity is the definite trace of apples.
- Body
- Of the Auchetoshan scotches that I have had so far, the Classic has a thinner, almost watery viscosity. The legs are thinner, and they run down the side of the glass quicker than the older scotches from this distillery.
- Palate
- With a few of my favorite scotches, there's a split second before the peat settles in where I can pick out specific traces. In the case of the Classic, my senses are filled with the sharp, crisp taste of apples. The Classic has a certain freshness to it, which reminds me a bit of mint. Overall, a very crisp taste.
- Finish
- As the scotch slips down your throat, it leaves a lingering, floral crispness on your tongue, and essences of grass and, once again, apples. The nuttiness of Auchentoshan is hidden well under these other flavors, and you may need to have 3 or 4 sips of the Classic in order to find it, but the finish is pleasant, warming, and lingering.
For just over $30, this scotch is an excellent addition to your liquor cabinet.
