The curious name is pronounced “Arry nam Baysht” and is the second loch down from Uigeadail. It therefore performs a balancing role in supplying the water from Loch Uigeadail required by the distillery. In the ancient Gaelic language it means “place, or shelter of the beast or animals” …and a very ghostly place it is too! Alongside 10 Years Old and Uigeadail it will complete the “Troika”* of regular expressions available from Ardbeg.

    Color
    Light gold
    Nose
    Strong and sweet peat.
    Body
Tickles the tongue and humors the mouth, scrapes the throat's front and oils its back.
    Palate
Tangy and sticky heat, a cool campfire in your mouth.
    Finish
The last tendrils of firesmoke lingering in your head.

For the early morn, both nightcap and waking bell, bring the Beist to bed tonight.

    Color
    Golden straw
    Nose
Woody, peat, floral, mildy fruity, amazing.
    Body
    Medium to full, buttery
    Palate
Peat, aged wood, sweet grain, citrus, vanilla, marshmallow (once again, amazing)
    Finish
After the palate flavors settle down, there's a smooth transition to fresh seaweed

This stuff is unforgettable. I really like the 10 Year, the Corryvreckan's a beast (in a good way), but I was disappointed with the Uigeadail (as I don't care for sherry). Airigh Nam Beist is elegant, refined, yet doesn't forget it's roots. Absolutely spectacular.

    rich fruity, smokey,
    Body
    full, smooth
    Palate
    peat, almond ; delicious soft
    Finish
lovely finish; caramel; then smoke returns

After trying both the 10 years and the Uigedail this came as a surprise. Not an assault on yur senses but a very smooth aged whiskey. Perfect for after dinner around the fireplace with a nice cigar...
